Selena Lanelle Prince was born on July 30, 1979 in Hinsdale, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. She is an American singer-songwriter. Her music career began when she moved to Los Angeles in April 2014.
Selena Lanelle is the oldest of three sisters and one brother. She was married and changed her name to Selena Lanelle Tenorio. She had one daughter, Daniella, in April 2001. Selena is a believer in God and is a fan of Christian ministers Joyce Meyer and Joel Osteen.
Selena grew up dancing to African and hip-hop music at Hoffman Estates High School and Latin music at University of Illinois at Chicago. She later attended Northwestern University majoring in biological science. Although she initially planned to become a doctor, she chose to pursue a musical career instead.
In May 2014, Selena met music producer Jason Lawrence through mutual friends in Los Angeles. Jason heard Selena sing and asked her to audition for him. Selena is currently collaborating with Jason on numerous works.
Selena has named Whitney Houston as her idol and biggest influence. She also cites Mariah Carey and Dionne Warwick as major influences and idols. Selena was inspired to start her career after performing in a local 4th of July celebration. Selena’s music contains strong influences of Latin, Rock, and Pop.
